Staff Training Workshops

Staff training days are an opportunity for teachers, particularly in primary schools, to learn drawing and painting techniques, methods and ideas which they can use in the class room.

All drawing and painting techniques are broken down into easily understood and simple sections, so that even the person with very little artistic ability can use and demonstrate them to a class. Teachers will learn how to draw almost everything from simple trees to horses, starting with very simple shapes. If teachers have the ability to draw circles, squares, triangles and cones then they can draw. It is amazing how effective this method can be in creating confidence. The use of tone, line shape and texture is also covered.

Painting workshops cover everything from how to hold a brush and to use it in ways to create a variety of marks, to colour mixing. Practical demonstrations are an essential part of this activity and everything is demonstrated in a humorous and supportive manner, so even the most reluctant artist can achieve wonderful results. How to plan a painting using preliminary sketches, making sure objects in the picture are not too small and lots of other issues connected with painting are covered.

Advice, if requested, can be given on the best art materials and equipment to buy, appropriate for each year group. Advice and demonstrations can be created on such topics as colour mixing, organising an art lesson, planning progression, in fact anything connected with teaching art in schools.
